AI-driven startups are reviving venture capital funding in the U.S.
Quarterly data from PitchBook shows that VCs invested $55.6 billion in startups, a 47% jump compared to the first quarter.
In Latin America, according to a report by Distrito, startups raised US$2.18 billion in the first half of 2024.
Although drastically lower than the U.S., the amount represents 40.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
In Brazil, startups raised a total of $928 million in Q1 and Q2 combined, much driven by fintechs and deeptechs.
Some of these companies are now expanding into the U.S. market leveraging AI solutions to scale.
Much has been said and written about the two young Brazilian founders who are leading San Francisco-based Brex.
Together they managed to raise $1.5 billion and scale the corporate credit card company to 30K+ clients.
BayBrazil community has spoken with them a couple of times in these past years and recently they’ve been in the news again for shifting their co-CEO model.
Beyond Brex, BayBrazil 2018 research showed that a number of Brazilians living in the Silicon Valley region were building new tech startups and venture funds.
While the enterprises listed then are still growing (aside from Olivia, which was sold to Nubank and Neemo, sold to Linx) Brazilian founders have created new startups, especially in SF Bay Area and Florida. Moreover, some companies founded in Brazil are now expanding into the U.S.
On Aug 14th we will gather tech founders, investors and thought leaders for a conversation on:
- the impact of genAI on businesses across industries
- application of AI tools and LLMs on product, design, customer management
- the current state of AI adoption in Brazil versus other emerging markets
- how are founders navigating the global economic slowdown and seizing new opportunities
