Brazil is in the midst of its worst recession in history. In contrast, entrepreneurship is booming with about four thousand early-stage startups spread across the country.
The ecosystem encompasses both local and international investors, Google is the most recent one. The company just opened a campus in Sao Paulo to provide hands-on support for local companies. Another active player is Redpoint e.ventures which, along with Banco Itau, launched Cubo in 2015 to provide an entrepreneurial education platform for entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the ecosystem.

The firm has focused on mobile and consumer internet sectors. Its portfolio includes companies such GymPass, BankFacil, PasseiDireto, and Viajanet, among others.
Prior to Redpoint e.ventures, Anderson was the CEO of Apontador, the leading local search and geolocation company in Brazil, and an Investment Principal at Naspers/MIH, in charge of starting their Internet presence in Latin America. Earlier in his career, he worked as a tech entrepreneur and software developer both in Brazil and Switzerland. Anderson received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Unicamp, a M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management, and a SEP from Stanford University.
In a fireside chat with Avanish Sahai, Anderson will talk about his journey as an investor, the impact of the crisis in Brazil on businesses and his perspective on the Brazilian startup scene.
