Investments in startups focused on education technologies were getting traction in the last few years, reaching a record high in 2015 when funding was over $3 billion. However, according to CB Insights, in Q1 2016 funding dropped to a 7-quarter low with size of deals decreasing proportionately.
Still, companies across the globe are tapping into the growing market formed by schools and individuals who are adopting edtech to both create knowledge as well as acquire new skills. One example is LinkedIn, which acquired Lynda.com in 2014. The company just launched a new product, LinkedIn Learning, a platform with thousands of courses to help individuals develop new skills.
